Prisoners of history

It is surprising to what extent our lives are impacted by significant geopolitical and cultural shifts. Many of those trends follow patterns seemingly determined by nature interacting with policies determined by the foreign policy establishment. The people setting those policies and the policies themselves seem to be barely affected by the politicians who come and go and who, theoretically at least, represent the will of the people. It seems that most foreign policy is set by people who have never been elected, often working in non-governmental organisations and think tanks. Much of the turbulence of the past 30 years seems to flow from geopolitical ideas set out by Zbigniew Brzezinski all the way back in his 1991 book The Grand Chessboard.
In this section we try and provide context to seemingly unconnected events, which very often relate back to great power politics and views of the foreign policy establishment which is heavily influenced by the Brzezinski doctrine. As a rule, mainstream media will never discuss these doctrines, or even hint at the fact that foreign policy is largely set without reference to the will of the people.
