As you may recall, Barry Young is the individual who leaked data on 2.2 million vaccinated New Zealanders from a total of around 4.0 million vaccinated individuals. Alternative media outlets, including Russell Brand’s channel and Alex Jones’ InfoWars, are claiming that Barry’s actions were selfless and that he has provided the world at large with a unique set of data which demonstrates once and for all that the COVID-19 vaccine is not safe.
Unfortunately (since we all want a hero) those claims do not stand up to scrutiny. By now, we should be becoming used to the wall of disinformation surrounding COVID produced by national governments, starting with misleading models through fraudulent PCR tests and finally “safe and effective” vaccines. There is an assumption that material coming from the vaccine sceptic side will be truthful.
In my last article1, I explained why very little useful information could be gained from the release of anonymised vaccinee records and that it would not be possible to calculate the number of vaccine related deaths, as was claimed. Overall, I would say that this conclusion is widely shared and is consistent with findings from Assistant Professor of Statistics William Briggs2, Professor Fenton, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai and others. There are far better ways of getting a handle on vaccine related deaths starting from official government statics on total deaths and data on vaccine adverse event reports (VAERs). In fact, New Zealand’s data on VAERs3 is very detailed and downloadable; this would be an obvious place to start from.
Then, there is the background of the leak itself which had been in process for a very long time, in an article from Voices for Freedom4, they explain that Barry Young let down a number of people who invested time in working on the story. One team spent eight months making arrangements to have the data analysed by experts, whilst Barry Young was having parallel conversations before unexpectedly passing the data on to Liz Gunn. As part of the release of the data, a newly started political party called the Loyal Party run by Liz Gunn produced a video interview with Barry Young discussing the figures5.
This is one of the most dishonest discussions of statistics I have ever seen as Barry failed to make clear the very high death rates of say 21.38% were related to a batch where vaccinees had a high average age The figure of 21.38% refers to a subset of batch-1 where the average age of vaccinees was 66, the average age for the subset is likely even higher. The average age of death in batch 1 was 85, which is not a shocking figure over a more than two year period following vaccination. Barry did not provide any of this context, nor did he mention that the deaths were due to all causes and instead implied that they were due to vaccination. There is certainly cause for concern over possible vaccine deaths, but these numbers were misleading and were presented as part of a heavily hyped Mother of All Revelations (M.O.A.R.) video. Coincidentally, the Loyal Party had announced a fund raising objective of one million Kiwi dollars in June 2023, just a few weeks before the hyped M.O,A.R. video release. Finally, if Barry had genuinely been concerned about bringing an end to vaccination in New Zealand, he could have joined one of at least two organisations who have campaigned tirelessly to terminate the vaccine programme and assist the vaccine injured, both working on shoestring budgets.
For all of the above reasons, I won’t be manning the barricades on behalf of Barry Young. As so often in life, the real heroes are those volunteers in New Zealand who have been working without pay for years in grass-roots organisations like The Health Forum New Zealand and the citizens’ VAERs project. Circulating misleading, cherry picked statistics helps no one and actually undermines the rock solid case for bringing an immediate end to mRNA vaccination in New Zealand and elsewhere.
